For Your Information

The Diversity and Inclusion adviser for West Lancashire Scouts is Doner Gadsden. Everything on this website is for guidance only. Every person is different as well as every situation and both should be treated with respect. If additional help is needed then contact your Leader, GSL or DC or email Doner from our contact section.

When handling any situation remember the yellow card at all times. There may be times when you are dealing with an unhappy; distressed and angry; or a sad, withdrawn young person. Respect and understanding should be shown at all times. There maybe times when the situation is shocking or frustrating, or it maybe something that you feel that you cannot deal with on your own, but try not show this to the young person; you may be the only person they have managed to tell. In situations like this, only talk to the relevant people.

One good word to remember is STAR and what it stands for:

Stop
Think
Act
Respond

Listening is one of the greatest and important aspects of communication. A majority of the time a young person does not want advice, just someone to talk to. Do stop and think before you act and respond.
